The Admiral Goes Back to School
During preparations for the June launch of the Admiral Redsocks, Slains
School children were busy with their summer term theme of boats and boat
building. An opportunity for community linked learning was readily identified
and the idea of a CORC visit to Slains School was suggested to Head
Teacher Mr. Duncan Reaves.
On Friday 12th September, Andrew Davidson and David Burrows gave a
whole school talk consisting of an initial slide show and role play indoors.
Outside in the sunshine, kids were delighted to pair up and sit side by side,
working together to hold their oars, whilst figuring out life jackets and getting
their hands on the rudder. The importance of commands and teamwork were
discussed and possibly the highlight of the morning saw Primary 5’s Angus
Huston selected to demonstrate life jacket inflation, thankfully on dry land,
with lots of laughter and awe.
Later on the playing field, a frantic game of ‘Port, Starboard, Bow,
Stern!’ took place, resulting in laughter, confusion and serious
competition from kids and adults alike. The morning finished on a high note
with CORC members joining their kids in a chorus of Speed the Admiral
Redsocks, just before the lunchtime bell.
Admiral Redsocks Speeds to Victory at Stonehaven Regatta
Saturday 24th August saw the Admiral Redsocks and crews head south to sunny
Stonehaven to enjoy a day’s racing as part of the wider Harbour Festival. The Redsocks
was joined by skiffs from Portsoy, Catterline and Pittenweem and friendly rivalry was
renewed in fantastic boating conditions.
Extraordinary team effort saw the Admiral Redsocks placed first overall, receiving a
beautiful hand-turned spalted birch bowl as winners of the inaugural Stonehaven Regatta
2014, followed closely by Pittenweem’s Fisher Lass, the Spirit of Catterline and the Soy
Loon. Following a mighty rendition on the Old Pier, it’s likely that refrains of ‘Speed the
Admiral Redsocks’, are still echoing around Stonehaven Harbour.

The Complete Beer Cruise of the Admiral Redsocks
Through, storm, fog and just a wee bit sunshine, the Admiral Redsocks carried its precious cargo of a keg of Brewdog’s finest IPA down the Ythan from Ellon, over the treacherous Ythan bar and up the coast to Collieston. It arrived just in time to fuel the festivities during Collieston’s Gala week.

The Beer’s Here!
After leaving Ellon just over a week ago, the Keg of Brewdog IPA finally emerged through the haar aboard the Admiral Redsocks to be landed at Collieston.
Local artist Paul Ritchie, son of Admiral Redsocks, welcomed the crew and urged everyone to come along and enjoy the beer at the opening event of the Gala – Petanque at the bouledrome on the evening of Wednesday 30th July.
