Collieston and Slains WRI

“Celebrating 20 years in 2014/2015”

The current Institute of Collieston & Slains WRI was reformed in 1994 (the previous group having run from 1961 to 1977). The opening meeting attracted 14 members and since then the membership has fluctuated between 12 and 22 members.

The umbrella under which the Institute operates (Scottish Women’s Rural Institute – SWRI) can be defined as a society for women who live and work in the country or interested in country life with the badge representing love, friendship and a power of good. The diversity of the activities which are available to members can be sourced on the SWRI website.

Over the years the Institute has covered a diverse selection of meetings including craftwork, talks on numerous subjects, visits and fundraising events. We take part in a limited number of competitions with reasonable success but the members place more importance on the taking part, friendship and laughter.

“There’s nothing worth the wear of winning  But laughter and the love of friends”

We welcome new members and should anyone wish to come along and ‘taste the water’ before deciding to join they will be made most welcome. Therefore should any meeting on the syllabus interest you and you want to join us please do and we hope that your visit will encourage you to join us on a more permanent basis as a member.

Meetings are held from September to May in Collieston Community Centre on the second Monday of the month at 7.30pm.
